Organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), in association with the Ministry of Railways, Government of India, the International Railway Equipment Exhibition (IREE) is the only international event in India for the Railway and its related sectors. The Indian Railways participate in the IREE in a big way, displaying their capabilities and future requirements. The IREE attracts participation and visitors from around 20 countries.

The first IREE was held in the year 1990 in Kolkata, with 55 exhibitors from India and overseas. The focus was Indian Railway's upgradation, modernization, electrification and computerization. The second IREE was held in the year 1994, again in Kolkata, with around 100 exhibitors.

State Cabinet Approves Additional Rs 2,187 Crore For Land Acquisitions For Bangalore Metro Phase-II

On Monday, the State Cabinet approved an additional Rs 2,187 crore (approx US$ 342 Million) for acquisition of lands for phase-II of the Bangalore Metro Rail project. Ltd. has won the bid to supply 10,600 metric tonne of Head Hardened Rails for the track work of the 37km Phase-1 of the Ahmedabad metro-rail project at the cost of Rs 59.32 crore. MMRC Received Its First TBM For Construction Of Underground Mumbai Metro-3 Corridor

The MMRC (Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation) has received its first Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) for the construction of the 33.5km long Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro-3 corridor. MMRC, Managing Director, Ashwini Bhide said,"With the arrival of our first TBM we have kicked off our tunnelling activity, which is another most critical part of this project." CMRS Gives Green Signal For Metro Rail To Start Commercial Operations

MRC receives the green signal for the Metro Rail to start commercial operations. CMRS Satish Kumar Pandey gave his approval to the Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) after inspecting a trial run of a Metro train at the maximum operating speed of 80 kmph. The New Metro Rail Policy makes the private participation a must for the states to get assistance from Centre for the new metro projects in India. MMRDA Suggests New Option For India's First Bullet Train Terminal

The MMRDA suggested one more option of the site for the proposed bullet train terminal in G-Block of the BKC. After Dharavi, the latest alternative is a plot reserved for a recreation ground (RG) next to Mithi river in G-Block of the BKC. The reason the riverside site or Dharavi have been suggested is that the MMRDA does not want any compromise on space for its proposed IFSC (International Financial Services Centre), under which the bullet train planners originally wanted the terminal.

Railways To Upgrade 24 railway stations To Boost Tourism

24 railway stations of tourist importance have been identified for upgradation of passenger amenities in association with Ministry of Tourism on a cost sharing basis in the ratio of 50:50 subject to a ceiling of D 240 Cr. from Ministry of Tourism (MOT) and Ministry of Railways (MOR) together. The stations are identified on the basis of heritage and tourism importance of the station / destinations it caters to. 23 out of 24 stations, except Tarapith Road, have been jointly inspected by the team of officers from MOR and MOT.The expenditure likely to be incurred on the development of these stations is D 240 Cr. from MOT and MOR together.

MMOPL Launches India's First Mobile Ticketing System 'OnGo'

Metro Commuters will now be able to make use their smartphones for journey ticket, apart from tokens & smart cards, to commute on the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar corridor. On Wednesday, Mumbai Metro One announced the launch of India's first Mobile Ticketing System 'OnGo' which will help commuters pass the AFC gates using their mobile phones. The system is at an advanced stage of testing & is likely to be introduced in mid-August, 2017. The Mobile Ticketing System, works on iOS & android operating systems, Mumbai Metro One Pvt Ltd (MMOPL) said. The Mobile Ticketing System is expected to take load of the booking counters, where people queue up in large numbers to buy token or recharge smart cards.

IPRCL To Build Indore-Manmad Rail Corridor For Shipments Of Containers To JNPT

IPRCL (Indian Port Rail Corporation Limited), which is executing projects worth Rs 1 lakh crore, will build Indore-Manmad rail corridor for shipments of containers to JNPT, said Shipping, Road Transport & Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari. IPRCL is a first-of-its-kind Joint Venture Company (JVC), between the Major Ports under the Ministry of Shipping, & RVNL (Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd). Gadkari said,"From Indore and Dewas 47,000 containers go to JNPT (Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust). They go via Ahmedabad and Delhi. It takes eight days for containers to reach JNPT. We (IPRCL) are constructing a railway line between Indore and Manmad which can carry shipments in just 24 hours."

CMRS begins Final inspection of Metro corridor

The CMRS (commissioner of Metro railway safety) begins his inspection of the Metro corridor on Thursday. The inspection will continue till July 31. CMRS will check every component, detail of train, station, corridor & depot, before releasing his final verdict on the project. During first day of inspection, the CMRS checked the North-South corridor control room, from where trains will be monitored, the Transport Nagar depot, coaches of trains that have already been physically tested, & a few aspects of the Transport Nagar Metro station.

Railways Made Catering Optional In 31 Premium Trains

Railways has made Catering optional in 31 premium trains, including 7 Rajdhani, 6 Shatabdi & Duronto, on a trial basis for 6 months, the Indian Railways (IR) announced. From July 26, passengers can now opt out of the catering facility offered by IRCTC while booking their tickets. This would mean tickets on these trains are going to cost less those with pre-booked meals. However, Passengers cannot change their option during the journey once they opt out. In order to improve its catering services, during the booking process, the IRCTC will seek feedback from passengers. Additionally, 100 kitchens managed by the Railways will be handed over to IRCTC.

India's First 1600 HHP Solar DEMU Train Launched by Indian Railways

On Friday, Indian Railways launched its first 1600 HHP solar DEMU train. It is one of the environmental friendly measures taken by the railways which will also have financial benefits. The train will travel from Sarai Rohilla station in Delhi to Garhi Harsaru Junction, Farukh Nagar in Haryana. The train will replace the existing non-solar powered panel on the same route and run at the speed of 110 kmph. Team From Asian Development Bank To Visit Indore

A team from Asian Development Bank (ADB) will visit Indore to assess the much-awaited Metro Rail Project in Indore city. The move comes after a fund of $500 million was sanctioned by ADB and New Development Bank (NDB) on Wednesday. Officials of Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Company (MPMRC), Indore said each of the banks will provide a fund of $250 million. "Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) had initially agreed to finance the Indore Metro project, but it did not move ahead. Now, ADB and NDB have given their nod to provide the loan for this project which will be very effective for the city in controlling traffic congestion and increased pollution. It will also offer citizens of Indore a fast mode of transport," said MPMRC's officer on special duty, Kamal Nagar.

India To Get Its First High-Speed Rail Training Centre At Gandhinagar

India is set to get its first high-speed rail training centre at Gandhinagar. Achal Khare, Managing Director, National High Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRC) said,"The centre will provide for advanced training modules on cutting edge technologies. The construction will begin shortly after the foundation-laying ceremony is held in September." Estimated Cost of the Training Centre : Rs 600 crore (approx US$ 93.75 Million). It is being constructed over railway land measuring 4,400 metres. Operations Would Start by 2020. The training of 4,000 railway engineers has been envisaged before 2020. Around 300 of these will be trained in Japan, while the rest will undergo training at Gandhinagar centre.

UP Government Allocates Rs 288 Crore for Metro Rail Projects In the State

UP government allocating Rs 288 crore (approx US$ 44.31 Million) for Metro rail projects in the state. Lucknow Metro is ready for commercial run any time in July - has received a lion's share of Rs 233 crore (approx US$ 35.85 Million). This is the last instalment for Lucknow Metro the from state government's coffer under equity, sources said. It has already paid over Rs 1,000 crore (approx US$ 153.85 Million) to the project in the past 2 years. While DPRs (Detailed Project Reports) are already complete and sent to the government for approval for Kanpur & Varanasi metro, corridors in Allahabad & Gorakhpur have recently been finalised.

'Vistara' on tuesday started check-in facility from the New Delhi Metro station of the Airport Express Line inaugurated by Dr Mangu Singh, Managing Director/DMRC and Mr. Phee Teik Yeoh, CEO, Vistara in the presence of Mr. Ashwani Lohani, CMD, Air India and other senior officials from DMRC, DIAL, Air India, Jet Airways. Delhi Metro To lease Trains To Cater Passengers Rush

As the crowd increasing constantly the Delhi Metro will be leasing trains to cater to the growing rush of passengers. To meet the rush & run trains at increased frequency - particularly during peak hours, DMRC needs more trains. Till date, DMRC had only purchased trains - a time-consuming process that also needs substantial investment. The DMRC is now exploring the possibility of taking trains on lease instead of purchasing them & the Inderlok-Mundka (line 5) corridor will be the first section where the leased trains will be deployed.

Tatanagar Railway Station to be privatised, decides Central Government

Tatanagar Railway Station will soon be privatised. In the second list of the railway board, Tatanagar and other stations under South Eastern Railway zone will be part of the privatization project. In one of its largest Public Private Partnership projects, the Central government has decided to privatize 23 railway stations of the Indian Railways in the first list. The Railways will only take responsibility for train operations, ticket sales, parcels and security arrangements. However, in addition to the security system of Railways, private security guards will also be deployed at different areas of the stations.

INR 2000 Crore to be Spent on train protection and warning system to improve safety

Indian Railways is working towards making the train travel faster and safer in certain sections with introducing Train Protection and Warning System (TPWS) on 3,330 km at an estimated cost of Rs 2,000 crore. The advanced accident prevention measure, under which trains will be in constant communication with the signals through sensors installed on the track side, will be implemented in two phases over the next three-four years. A pilot project of the system was operationalised a few years ago in certain sections of the railways.

ndian Railways is launching new 'Humsafar' coaches equipped with the facilities like GPS-based passenger information system, fire and smoke detectors. Indian Railways is now aiming to enhance the train travel experience by introducing these kind of facilities. As promised in the Budget, the Humsafar Express is a fully 3 AC service with modern facilities. The cost of a Humsafar 3-AC coach is Rs 2.58 crore, as compared to Rs 2.39 crore for a normal LHB 3-AC coach. The upgraded coaches also have facilities like baby nappy changing pads, and tea and coffeemakers.

Delhi Metro's Mundka to Bahadurgarh corridor to be Completed by December this year

The Delhi Metro's much-awaited Mundka to Bahadurgarh corridor is expected to be completed by December, this year. The corridor Links Mundka in west Delhi to Bahadurgarh in Haryana. It will come as a major relief to lakhs of commuters who commute on this stretch on a daily basis. The officials added that as much as 87 per cent of the work on the 11.181 km corridor has been finished. According to the officials, one of the key features of the Line is that it will be a straight corridor. "The elevated corridor passing through the Rohtak Road will be more or less straight. It would have the least number of turns in the entire Metro network," an official said.

World's Highest Rail Bridge Which Cost INR 1,250 Crore, Likely to be Ready by June 2019

The World's highest railway bridge which is being built on the river Chenab in Jammu & Kashmir is likely to be ready by June 2019. It will be 359 metres above the bed of river Chenab in Jammu and Kashmir. And will also be 30 metres higher than the iconic Eiffel Tower in Paris. The bridge is being built on the Katra-Banihal railway line at village Kauri in Reasi district. More than 66 per cent work has been finished on this rail bridge. More than 1,300 workers and 300 engineers have been working round-the-clock to complete the bridge by 2019.

Delhi Metro's ITO-Kashmere Gate Heritage Line Open For Public

The Delhi Metro made a major foray in the City, as the ITO-Kashmere Gate 'Heritage Line' was thrown open to public on Sunday. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Union Urban development minister M Venkaiah Naidu flagged off the Heritage line through video conferencing on Sunday. PM Modi To Inaugurate Kochi Metro on June 17

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Kerala's prestigious Kochi Metro project on June 17. The inaugural function of the 13-km Aluva-Palarivattom corridor will be held at Aluva in Ernakulam district. In the first phase, seven trains with CBTC technology will run on the 14-km Aluva-Palarivattom corridor. A total of nine trains are equipped with the technology, provided by French company Alstom. The CBTC system will give the position of the train more accurately. Mahametro has set up a quality control laboratory in its own premises, to ensure that its contractors use the right kind of materials. Also, the agency will get revenue from this laboratory, which will be available for use by other corporates too. Mahametro has signed an agreement with international quality control agency Bureau Veritas (BV) for this purpose. As per the norms contractors had to get their materials tested before using them for construction, a source in Mahametro said.
