Steel plays a crucial role in the railways sector as it is used to make rails for the rail track as well as the tracks for moving equipment like cranes, transfer cars, charging and pusher cars in coke oven battery, and material handling equipment (stacker, reclaimers, and bender reclaimers) etc. Steel is required to resist plastic deformation, wear, rolling contact fatigue, bending stress and thermal stress during rail welding process and rails resurfacing. Steel is a much stronger material than iron and has replaced iron for use in the production of rails which has allowed much longer lengths of rails to be rolled.
